A Hidden River
Philadelphia, PA

The name Schuylkill comes from the Dutch word for "hidden." The majority of this urban meander has been inaccessible to the public for over a century due to industrialization. For the past three decades, the City has worked to bring people back to the river, to extend the green corridor that has defined the city to the north. This effort has resulted in the Schuylkill River Park, almost two miles of waterfront that will bring the urban life of Center City out to the river, and that will connect this underused and under-appreciated resource to the lush landscape of Fairmount Park, the nation's largest urban park system.
