The Queens Plaza Bicycle and Pedestrian Landscape Improvement Project, which was led by Margie Ruddick and WRT, transforms the tangle of urban infrastructure cutting through Long Island City from a harsh, disorienting industrial maze into a lush, navigable landscape, gateway to Long Island City, for the Department of City Planning and NYC Economic Development Corporation. The urban and landscape design reconnects the surrounding neighborhoods and restores the connection between the city and the river. We worked with urban designer and architects Marpillero Pollack Architects and artist Michael Singer. The project spans one mile from the refuge-like JFK Park to the dramatic water’s edge below the Queensborough Bridge.
