The Domestic Landscape


In these residential projects, the landscape slows down through the subtle use of inspired plantings, mown meadows, and open spaces that respond to seasonal changes, creating a believable world that relates to the larger landscape. At these sites, masonry, plants and other materials were selected that blend with their surroundings.

This 18-acre family compound, once a potato field, now expresses the farm and ocean heritage of the place, while adding residential amenities and restoring forest cover. The pond, with two levels, surrounds the swimming pool to form an integrated landscape feature. Water falls over a weir from one level to another, and is aerated before it is pumped back through constructed wetlands, completing the filtration process.
