BISCAYNE BAY GARDEN

Miami, Florida

This island retreat overlooks Biscayne Bay and brings the land out into the water, the water into the land. The landscape envelops a traditional 1920s villa with a fantastical landscape of royal palms and lush tropical plantings. From here, two wild gardens grow – to one side a dense jungle, to the other a garden of palms and gingers. Water is everywhere: a swimming pool floating in a water garden, with floating terraces. Sky reflects in the water, which constantly transforms from a peaceful dome to a fury of storm clouds. The experience of water in this area is elemental, enhancing the sense of being within a wilder landscape.
